The Billabong Series
Billabongs are isolated water ponds that are cut off from the
main river stream as the weather dries up. When the wet season
begins and the river floods, the water in the billabongs fill up
and join the main river course again. The water stays fresh practically
all year round and supports an abundance of life of freshwater
fish, turtles, wildlife, water reeds and lillies.
They are a favourite place for Aboriginal people to camp as they are tranquil places to rest and reflect.
